1929年出版の全十巻のアンソロジー。Detective storyに特化してるのが画期的。私はまだ2作しか読んでいません。とりあえずの中間報告です。リストマニアの人並由真さまも喜んでくれるかな？実はおっさんさまが発掘したリチャード・コネルの短篇に出てきた伯父さん探偵が、長篇Murder at Sea(1929)にも登場する、とわかって俄然読みたくなったのです。それでいろいろ探したのですが、電子版やネットにもアップされていない。eBayとかで海外から取り寄せるしかないみたい。情報を探してるなかで「短篇The Sting of the Waspにも登場するアマチュア探偵が主人公」という紹介文があったのです。こっちは手に入るかも？と思って、いつも役にたつFictionMags Indexで調べて、このあまり知られていない大部のアンソロジーに至ったのです！コネルの作品自体は、まあ並の出来だったのですが、このアンソロジーの方はとても興味深い。 EQが応募した探偵小説コンテストがあったり、当時の米国探偵小説界は勢いがあったんですね。ヴァンダインのバカ売れで出版社はドジョウを探してたんでしょう。もちろん英国ゴランツのアンソロジー(セイヤーズ編 1928)の影響も大きかったはず。なんせ全十巻ですからねえ。企画実現にはかなりのパワーがいったはずだよ。ラインアップを以下に置いておきます。翻訳もちょっと調べてみたけど、網羅してません(特に古い翻訳はノーチェック)。収録内容を見ると、ちょっとやっつけ仕事じゃないの？という感じ。同じシリーズから数作収録してるし、私が読んだ一作のように並の作品としか思えないのも入ってる。でも珍しい作品も入っていてなかなか興味深いです。データ作成には九割がたFictionMags Indexを利用させていただき、独自に原本({FULL TEXT}と表示した巻はInternet Archiveにあり)や他のネット情報で修正したものがあります。 #通算番号作品名 [シリーズ探偵] • 作者名 (初出と思われる雑誌、または作品集"書籍名" 出版社出版年) 注釈、邦訳は「作品タイトル」『収録書籍(出版社)』で表示。ほとんどAmeqlistさんを参照させていただきました。(日本のFictionMags Indexに育って欲しいなあ！) なお複数の出版社に邦訳がある場合は独断で代表を選んでいます。 The World's Best One Hundred Detective Stories, ed. Rees について「オススメですよ。昔々、『新青年』の抄訳で読み、完訳を待望している（他人まかせです、ハイ）まさに読んで驚け、の短編です。」との情報をいただいたので、さっそく読んでみました。確かにビックリなネタ(ああこの手があったか！とトリックに疎い私など凄く感心)なんですが、文章の構成がだらだらしてて、作品の1/3以上が真相の仄めかしに終始してるんです… 抄訳でスパッといったほうが効果的だったのでは？と感じちゃいました。＜追記2024-4-16＞延原謙先生の邦訳データを追加。Re-ClaM編集部の三浦さまから資料を教えていただいて、延原先生の翻訳をチェック出来ました。延原先生は1932年には間違いなく、このアンソロジーを入手していたはず。(根拠は#20,#79,#80) でもバークリー「偶然は裁く」の翻訳は、セイヤーズのアンソロジー(1931)からかも？というのが現時点での調査内容です。
